.: Welcome to our residential page
Have you ever experienced a loss of information, because your PC has been running with a virus? If this were to occur, would you be prepared?
Our goal is to educate you, so you can fix and have the basics to run a safer computer.
.: Free ware is not always free?
Virus and trojan programs can be hidden in supposedly helpful free ware. These can be found on trusted web sites. Or even forced upon you. Make sure before installing that you update your antivirus.
.: Google Chrome
Look who's still rising, Google Chrome. It loads much faster than Internet Explorer and also somewhat faster than Firefox. It’s free to download. Might not work with all sites, but give it time and it will.
.: Throwing Out The Trash.
The best way to clean up your computer after a nasty malware infection is to completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall the software. This is the only way to ensure that all the malware has been removed. (See Slow Computer May Need A Makeover
.: Phishing sites are on the rise.
This is not Bass fishing! Always make sure that you are on an official website before entering any login information. If your e-mail address is publicly listed on social networking sites, a phishing site may send an official looking e-mail telling you to login and update settings such as your privacy and providing a link to an official looking site. Instead of clicking on the link in the e-mail, go to your browser and manually type in the main web address for the site.
An easy thing to remember an official site like Google will start with https:// addresses like mail.google.com should be OK, not google.mail.com remember www.thename.com there shouldn't’t be any additions between where you’re going and the .com .net etc.
.: Slow Computer May Need A Makeover
Lately I have found more and more people hanging on to their older machines. Nothing wrong with that. The issue that seems to be arising more and more is the speed of these machines. I can say to get more memory, a larger hard drive, change out the motherboard and processor, defragment the hard drive, remove the programs that you don’t use, and use cleaning programs to get rid of the large amounts of unnecessary files. After a bad virus, trojan, or spy-ware, you may need to load a new copy of your operating system. These invaders can cause real havoc on your computer, and cause loss of files that make your computer run. Make sure to follow the instructions that came with your computer to reload it or contact a technician for assistance.
.: USB Cables or Devices
Your computer is not starting up? Try removing your USB cables to your iWhatever’s or Smart Phones from your computer. You would not be the first.
Not all anti-spyware programs remove every type of spyware! Even the ones you pay for miss some spyware. I have found that it is a good idea to have at least an additional 2 programs installed, not that run at start up (which you can define at installation), but ones that you can have scan on your own time. A few of the free ones I use are Malewarebytes, Spybot Search & Destroy.
